Tomato Date Chutney

My mother-in-law’s tangy-sweet tomato date chutney, a perfect accompaniment to Bengali comfort food like Khichdi.

What you need

tbsp mustard seed

red chilli
pinch hing

tbsp fennel seed

cup water
tsp mustard oil

tsp cumin seed

tbsp coriander powder

tsp turmeric powder

tomato

dried mango

tbsp raisin

medjool dates
Instructions
Heat mustard oil in a pan, and temper it with dried red chilli, mustard, cumin, fennels and hing. Add the tomatoes, along with rest of the ingredients, and cook them, covered, until they have softened (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat once desired consistency is reached. Once cool, pour it into an airtight container and refrigerate it for up to 2 weeks.View original recipe
