Dalia Upma — No one makes it like Mom!

A simple and soulful Vegan Dalia (Broken Wheat) Upma recipe, inspired by a mother's cooking, naturally free of onion and garlic. Perfect for a healthy breakfast or brunch, made in a gorgeous copper pan.

tsp salt

tbsp cooking oil

bunch cilantro

tbsp sesame seed

cup green peas

tsp cumin seed

cup water

tbsp coconut

tbsp cashew

tbsp fresh ginger

tbsp sugar

cup sweet corn

fl oz lemon juice

cup carrot

tbsp urad dal

tbsp peanut

cup cracked wheat

Instructions
1. Dry roast the broken wheat/dalia till fragrant. 2. Soak the broken wheat in 3 cups of water. After the soaking time, drain if necessary, then add salt and the listed 1.25 cups of water, cover and cook the broken wheat until tender. 3. While the dalia is cooking, heat up another pan with oil for tempering. Add peanuts, sliced cashews, urad daal, sesame seeds, fresh chopped coconut, green chilies, ginger, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and Hing. Temper until fragrant and nuts are lightly browned. 4. Add the finely chopped carrot, green peas, and sweet corn to the tempering pan along with some salt. Let the vegetables cook well until tender-crisp. 5. Now add the cooked dalia to the vegetables and mix well. 6. Allow the upma to cook for another 7-8 minutes, stirring occasionally. 7. Just before serving, add more chopped coconut, raisins, sugar or sweetener, lemon juice, and chopped cilantro. Mix well. 8. Enjoy with chai!View original recipe
